Emily accepts briefs in all areas of criminal law and quasi-criminal law, including regulatory, administrative and public law matters. Emily also accepts briefs to appear in matters under the Serious Offenders Act 2018 and Major Crime (Investigative Powers) Act 2004. 

Emily is an experienced advocate who appears in VCAT, the Magistrates, County and Supreme Courts, and the Administrative Review Tribunal. Her practice includes both summary and indictable crime matters where she regularly appears in contested hearings, bail applications, pleas, committals, de novo appeals, pre-trial County Court hearings, breach proceedings and post-sentence applications (unled).  She also has experience drafting and responding to written cases in the appellate jurisdiction and has appeared as junior counsel in Supreme Court trials and the Court of Appeal.

Emily is currently participating in the Victoria Legal Aid Trial Counsel Development Program. 

She is also an elected member of the Criminal Bar Association and appointed member of the Victorian Bar’s Health & Wellbeing Committee for the 2025 term. 

Background
Prior to being called to the Bar, Emily had over 13 years of experience as a solicitor-advocate in criminal law.

Immediately prior to the bar, she worked at Victoria Legal Aid for 7 years. During that time, she was Associate Director of the Indictable Crime Program; managed VLA’s Indictable Crime Team; and conducted complex and high-profile indictable matters involving homicide, serious driving matters, sexual offences, drugs and fraud in both state and commonwealth jurisdictions. 

Prior to practising in criminal law, Emily was a solicitor at family law firm Farrar Gesisni & Dunn.  

She grew up in country Victoria and is particularly passionate about supporting regional practitioners and communities. She accepts briefs in regional court locations. 

Emily read with Sharon Lacy SC. Her senior mentors are Ian Hill KC and Ruth Shann SC.
